Charlene Moss, mother of Katherine (Katie) Moss, came forward this week to talk with ShadowMan Entertainment
about the murder of her daughter.
SM: Mrs. Moss...
C: Oh, please, just call me Charlene.
SM: Ok. Charlene, can you tell us why you decided to come forward to talk with ShadowMan?
C: Why, yes. Ever since this whole thing happened, I've been very concerned about my family. I didn't feel that things werebeing handled well, and I wanted to get a
few things off my chest. My husband, Fred, had been very, very depressed. And my son, Jack, hasn't been able to function very well.
SM: Your son, Jack. What seems to be the problem, Charlene?
C: Well, he's a Corporal in Force Recon at Camp Pendleton,
and he's been getting into some trouble lately. He's very angry about what happened to Katie. I'm very concerned that he may ruin his career.
SM: We understand that Jack wants revenge for Katie?
C: Oh, Lordy. He is
angry. Good heavens, now that he knows that Katie's death was just one of many, he's really gone crazy. Sometimes I don't even know my own son.
SM: Don't they have help for him on base?
C: Oh, dear. Yes. And they're thinking that a furlough might be a wise thing, but I don't know...
SM: You mean he might be coming to your home?
C: Yes. Oh, I don't know how I'm going to handle this. Jack is much safer,
so to speak, at Pendleton. And to mix him up with his father right now would not be good.
SM: How are your other daughters handling all this, Charlene?
C: Well, I believe they're a lot better now that they know that this is not an isolated incident. Oh, that's horrible to say...what I mean is that we feel safer now that we know that you are convinced
that this woman, this Ally Farson, is out of the country. Of course, we're all worried that she's so sneaky, that she could still be here and that she may want revenge on any of the family members of her
victims. We took Shanda out of school for a while. But she went back this fall, and she seems to be doing all right.
SM: Did you or any of the family know Katie's friends?
C: Well, we all knew about Rob, Katie's boyfriend. None of us
were happy about that. I believe the young man has some problems. And I was afraid that Katie might be drawn into that sort of lifestyle.
SM: What lifestyle?
C: Katie always liked to party. She was a sweet girl, and had a lot of life. She loved school, but
only for the social aspects, and I'm afraid she only went to church for the same reason. But she was not a bad girl. She had heart. And just because she didn't do well in school didn't mean she wasn't
intelligent. Lordy no. That girl was sharp as a tack. And we all thought she was coming around. She had been dating Rob for a while, but I believe she was tiring of that hanging out at the mall routine. She
had applied for a job, and she wanted to get back into learning again. She was starting to grow up.
SM: Did she have many friends at church?
C: Oh, yes. She loved the youth programs there. Always
begged to go to the church camps. It was almost like my poor Katie had two lives. The mall brats and church...
SM: And how do you think she knew Ally Farson?
C: I don't know. I don't know that she did know this woman.
How would she know her? But I have clues and I hear people saying that Katie knew her somehow. It's so odd that my girl had so many parts of her life that I didn't know about.
SM: How are you holding up with all this, Charlene?
C: Oh, thank you
for asking. I'm just so glad I have my church and my faith. The people at church have been so kind. So wonderful and supportive. My business has gone down a bit because of all the problems at home...poor
Fred is not any help, and I pray for him. He spends so much time in front of the television now. He says that when he goes into work - he works construction - that the sound of saws and hammers and drills
just gets on his nerves badly. He says the smell of the wood reminds him of the smell of coffins...
SM: Is your husband seeking help?
C: Ha! No, no. He's too macho for that. But I'm getting counseling with the preacher at our church. It's helped me
tremendously with handling all the anger, hurt and fear in our home. It's a very stressful time, and it will probably be that way for a while.
SM: Charlene, you know that there are lots of agencies out there that can help...
C: Oh, yes, I know. And I know that you all are working with some of the families, and I really appreciate your help. If we
need anything, believe me, I will count on your guidance in where we could go...
SM: Why did you decide to come to ShadowMan to give us an interview, Charlene?
C: Well, I know that some of the other families of the victims are very upset that you are doing this web site and the documentary. But I've prayed an awful lot about this, and I
believe that you have your hearts in the right place. I mean, so what if you make some money with this. Other people are getting money for the investigation, like the detectives, the officers. They all
get paid for their work, and you should, too. And if all this helps to capture the person who did this to our Katie, well, then. God bless you. |
